Ushering Duty

Ushers are an essential part of St. Paul Lutheran Church’s service. The task requires skills in both anticipating and reacting to diverse situations. Both men and women facilitate worship by welcoming attendees, administering the offering, minimizing distractions, and helping the congregation understand the flow of St. Paul’s services.

Ushers are volunteers and can serve annual appointments. Ushers report to the Elder on duty for the service. Ushers are highly visible members of St. Paul, must be dependable, hospitable, gracious people, and as with other church leaders, they must commit to the highest standards of http://www.stpaulwestlake.org/index.htmian living.

Responsibilities

Arrive at least 20 minutes before your service and ensure cleanliness and safety of the sanctuary/activity center.
Welcome church attendees as they arrive - especially any visitors.
Help assist in the distribution of service folders as people enter the service.
Guide people with special needs to appropriate seating.
Discreetly guide latecomers to seats at appropriate points in the service.
Assist in taking the offering and the "count", reporting to the Elder on duty
Organize the flow of the congregation as they process forward for communion or other events
Monitor the congregation during the service to see if any church members have a special need that requires assistance.
Collect bulletins and other items left behind after the congregation leaves
Assist Elder in retrieving the attendance sheets after the second service

Essential Documents and Schedules

The following documents will provide you additional information and the current schedule for duty. If you are unable to be at church during your assigned month, please let the elder in charge and at least one member of your team know that you are not going to be there.

Starting Sunday, August 22, 2010, the ushers on duty will be listed in the bulletin. As you look at the schedule you can see we are still in need of more individuals to assist with ushering. Please consider becoming an usher and submit an application form below.
