Grade 4

“A JOB WELL DONE” MONEY REWARD SYSTEM

The fourth grade classes have decided to work together on a positive reinforcement system in our classrooms.  The key word is “positive”.  We believe that by focusing on the good choices our students make, we can encourage and influence their ability and desire to continue making good choices.  This influence is also invaluable to the other students around them.

Our philosophy is this:  students arrive at school everyday and are expected to perform certain duties (work) during the school day.  This includes everything from having their homework completed, to being prepared with materials, to knowing the procedures of the classroom.  If students perform as they are expected, they receive their weekly payment.  If they choose to perform more than was expected of them, their pay may increase.  If a student forgets a needed classroom item, such as a pencil, they will need to use their money to pay for a new one.  It therefore becomes their responsibility.

We believe this program will teach responsibility, use of the gifts our God has given to us, and it will provide a small look into the real world of money and economics.

Some highlights of the program:

1. Students will deposit and withdraw money as needed from the student bank.

2. Students will earn $200.00 weekly.

3. Students may earn incentive pay by making wise choices.

4. The class as a whole may work together to earn “class money”.  (A class wide goal is set, and the class works to earn special privileges.)

5. The other teachers that work with our students will be encouraged to reward the students in the same fashion.

6. Students are responsible for depositing their money.  If money is lost before being deposited, it will not be credited to their account.
