Here’s Your Sign | John 7:37-39
Sermon Summary:
Don’t you wish you had a sign from God about if you’re making the right decision in big moments in your life? The Israelites wanted confirmation (a sign) that the 70 elders were rightful authorities under Moses and God, so God made them prophesy. The disciples were waiting for the Holy Spirit, and the tongues of fire (along with speaking in tongues) was a sign to them. What’s our sign that Jesus is alive in us? God gave the Israelites a sign he was with the elders: they prophesied.
Tongues of fire and speaking in tongues were the signs that God’s Spirit was with the disciples.
Jesus said that everyone who believes in him will have streams of living water flowing from within them.
I cannot look inward for a sign that I am alive in Christ.
What’s my sign God is with me: my baptism.
In Christ, I am ready because I’ve been made ready (through faith).
