Sermon Summary:
Milton Bradley’s “The Game of Life” has taught kids for many years that, to “win at life,” you must get into a good college, get a good paying job, get lots of toys, and retire early with lots of money. Whether or not someone has played that game, that’s how we are taught winning in life is like in the real world as well. In Matthew 16, Jesus flips that on its head and says the opposite: the way of living is to deny yourself, take up your cross, and to follow him. Join Pastor Josh as he delves into this difficult text.
Following Jesus is costly.
God’s kingdom is upside down compared to the ways of the world.
In God’s kingdom, the way up is down. Jesus came down to bring us up to him, now we are joined in this upside down way of life.
To follow Jesus is to ultimately go to your death.
I am following Jesus, denying myself, and taking up my cross. And, I can do more.
“Winning” at life is not what I’m called to do. Living like a loser is.
