The Blame Game | Mark 9:42-49
Sermon Summary:
Jesus takes sin very seriously. How seriously? He says to cut off your hand if it causes you to sin. But as Pastor Josh digs into the text, you will discover that: it’s not your hand that causes you to sin, it’s something else. And you can’t pass off the blame of what your hand does.
Jesus takes sin very seriously.
James 1:15, “Then desire when it has been conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
Your hand/foot/eye never cause you to sin.
I am not a victim; I am responsible for my actions.
Part of taking sin seriously means that you cut it off.
There’s a tension with both of these truths: I’m completely loved and forgiven of my sin by Christ; and Christ has called me to follow him.
