Things Will Get Better | Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43
Sermon Summary:
Most of the parables Jesus tells contain some surprising element. Sometimes the surprising element is how the kingdom of heaven looks–specifically, that the kingdom looks unusual or wrong in some way. This is the case in the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds. Jesus tells this parable to acknowledge that the kingdom doesn’t look quite the way many people might expect. Yet, Jesus also tells this to reassure His disciples that He will work things out according to His perfect will. Things do not look right now…but in His time, He will set all things right. We trust in God’s perfect patience, and we pray for God to grant us patience as we live faithfully in His kingdom now.
When we look at the way the world is, we tell God “Things look so bad!”
God says, “I know.”
We say “Here’s how we are going to fix it.” God says, “Things will get better. Be patient. I will make all things right.”
Romans 8:18– “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
God’s patience is a mercy to us.
Jesus gets wrongfully rooted up in order to set all things right.
When things look bad, “hope for what you do not see, and wait for it with patience.” (Romans 8:25)
In Christ, I am ready because I’ve been made ready (through faith).
