Called to Be Male and Female | Ephesians 5:22-33

Sermon Summary:

In today’s world, it seems that most people believe men and women are completely interchangeable. There is no real difference between the sexes, beyond the physical differences. This is simply not true! When you examine God’s Word and the design of God’s creation from the very beginning, you clearly see that God created men and women to be different and to fulfill different roles. They are equal in giftedness, value, and importance. They are equal in their need for a Savior and in God’s love for them. But they are beautifully different according to God’s perfect design and will. This sermon will explore how we are called to be male and female. Let’s stop warring against God’s design, and instead take joy in fulfilling God’s will for our lives according to how He has created us.

  • Men and women are:

    • Different

    • Complementary

    • Equally precious and important

  • In God’s design (the “order of creation”), the man is the head and the woman is the helper. (Genesis 2:18-24)

  • Men are responsible for leadership, protection, and provision.

  • Women are responsible for helping. They complete each other.

  • This is God’s design. But why don’t we see it playing out perfectly?

    • Genesis 3–the Fall into Sin

  • The first sin is wanting to be God.

  • In the curses (Genesis 3:16-19) we see how things are messed up after the fall…

  • What is God’s plan to restore His creation?

    • Genesis 3:15 & Ephesians 5:22-33

  • Redeemed by Christ, how then are men and women to live?

  • Wives are to submit to their husbands.

  • Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church.

  • The greatest need/desire of a wife is to be loved. The greatest need/desire of a husband is to be respected.

  • Living according to God’s design is the best way to live.
